The Tubular Spice Company… and the environment.

As responsible members of the business community, it is our desire and pledge to leave the environment better than we found it. As consumers of the earth's resources we consider it our responsibility to keep the environmental impact from our business to an absolute minimum. We hope to eliminate environmental impact completely in the near future.

Our lighting: The Tubular Spice Company uses 88% sun light to light our work areas. A combination of windows, skylights and interior design has allowed us to cut our electrical intake from lighting by 88%. Where we do use electric lighting we use compact or high efficiency fluorescent lighting.

Our shipping area: We recycle or re-use 96% of incoming materials. Products are shipped to us in boxes and when those boxes are suitable for reshipping, we use every one for an outgoing shipment. The packaging in those boxes is also re-used as frequently as possible. What we cannot re-use, we recycle. We ask that you save the boxes and packaging sent to you and re-use them when you need to ship something to someone.

Our interior environment: Our facility is 50% beneath ground. This provides for significantly lower electrical intake in heating and cooling as compared to above ground structures. Circulation devices such as fans are solar powered by solar arrays located on our rooftop. The remainder of our heating and cooling is accomplished by super high efficiency heat pumps using only R-410A refrigerant.

Our exterior Environment: Our parking area was built from 95% recycled materials and kept to an absolute minimum. We have incorporated a variety of foliage strategically placed to keep us cool in the summer and let the sunlight heat us during the winter. The remainder of property is covered with greenery that does not require watering from public sources. We capture rainwater runoff from to do what little watering needs done. We use 100% organic matter to feed our property. We feed our property what we feed ourselves. All left over green material from our meals goes into compost bins which, are mixed with naturally decaying elements from our property, which is then composted and used to feed our natural landscape.
